Oh I understand why the school has the rule and says it cannot


make any exceptions. When I was in HS there was an 18 year senior dating a 24 or 25 year guy and I thought it was odd that he was allowed to attend HS dances.

Like I said in my OP I could see the media circus that could be created if a HS denies a dying parent (let's assume that parent has less than a year to live) the opportunity to attend prom with his/her child. Then there is the parent, who is in the military and been stationed overseas for months (maybe years), who want to surprise his/her child at a school function (we have all seen the YouTube clips). Just imagine the circus that would ensue if the media caught wind of the school denying the parent the opportunity to surprise his/her child when returning home. However, if the school helped plan the surprise and even let the parent have 1 dance, then it is potentially creating a legal circus because someone could argue that the school made an exception to its rule.
